Ok got here at around 10ish it is now 1120 and still no food. Great local place if you are willing to WAIT!!!! Cash only so stop at ATM before getting here! Staff is pretty friendly but too busy to really pay attention. Prices are good! Food is usually pretty good nothing special but good! I would not come here with little kids it would be too much to expect them to sit this long.

Food good. Presentation not so much. This is the impression I left with after eating here. The breakfast included eggs and corned beef hash, ehich despite the long wait was hot and quite delicious. My only complaint is some of the staff, especially some who serve food, who are constantly sweaty and soggy from working. Please turn up the A/C. The waiters looked as if they are on a break from working in the auto shop. The food was good, but unfortunately I will not be back

Nice breakfast place! I saw a review that said "breakfast like gramma made" and figured it would be pretty good :) Yep. It's good eat local! Plus all the owls are darn cute !

Who would have imagined that the inconspicuous Green Owl would draw such ire? Having eaten both inside and outside, though never at the counter, I feel qualified to call for a truce here. It's not 5 star dining, as noted, but doesn't have to be. It's a local place for folks who want to stroll down the ave, get a hearty breakfast on the way to or from the beach, or for those who prefer character over uniformity. Not having eaten lunch there, I can say that the breakfast is fine--and sometimes even more than fine. The last time there, a week or so ago (the earlier you arrive, the better, particularly on the weekends), we got a table for two by the window which afforded us an opportunity to people-watch in Delray on a Sunday morning. People walking hand in hand, or walking their dogs, in groups or alone--the ave comes alive in the morning, and to watch it from the air-conditioned side of a plate glass window with a steaming cup of coffee in your hand, the Sunday Times on the table, and a plate of hearty food before you--what more could you want? This day was drizzly and opting for the inside was smart when the drizzle turned to rain for awhile, but we've breakfasted outside on sunny mornings just as joyously. The snarky rehab comments in earlier reviews are uncalled for. Will it kill you to sit at a table near someone who is different from you for 30 minutes of your week? The last time I was there, a guy at a table near me was heavily tattooed and had to jump up from the table a few times to go out and smoke, but his friends were there with him, and his kids, and they were all having a nice time. Enough already. There but for the grace of God and all that . . . Try the Green Owl one morning. Your coffee cup will stay full, as will your heart (assuming you have one).

Fantastic! Hash browns and banana pancakes.... GREAT! Very relaxed atmosphere. Loved it!

Never seemed to be open when I was hungry, not worth the wait, food is average. If they ever have any real competition on Atlantic ave they will be in very big trouble.

Living in Delray I've been to almost all of the restaurants. I wish I had not wasted my time going to the Green Owl. The food and coffee were mediocre at best. First time I went it took over an hour to get a crammed seat at the counter. Everything looked really dirty. Even the silverware and coffee mug looked like it had not been washed. This place has gone way down hill from what I've heard. Would not recommend especially since there are a dozen other places to get brunch on Atlantic.

I was visiting the area on business and looking for a local breakfast option. A number of vintage classic cars were parked in front suggesting this was a spot that the locals preferred and frequented. I was right! The decor is dated which is just fine as the reasonable menu prices mimic the era that this establishment was last updated. The seating is a 50/50 split between counter and tables and all were occupied during my mid week visit. The Green Owl offers basic breakfast fare which is well prepared and served promptly by courteous wait staff. Well worth a visit for decent food with a taste of local flavor. Cash only!

Came here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. EEEKKKK...Well waited 10 minutes for a table no big deal. However, waited 45 minutes for a toasted bagel and 2 eggs over easy with toast??? WTF?? I understand it's a busy Sunday morning but it's breakfast food your not cooking well done burgers, steaks, or chicken. Obviously their system (paper tickets going into the kitchen) is outdated if your doing this much volume spring for a POS. And as far as clean? HA!!! I held in my buisness till we went somewhere else. GROSS GROSS. There is a difference between old and new but atleast it can be old and CLEAN. That would def the first and last time i ever go there.

Great food fun atmosphere! I love this place for breakfast. The food is great (diner food) and the price is reasonable. I like to sit outside when it's not too hot. This place is always busy.

As a tourist joining a local friend for what we thougth would be a fun outside cafe experience, I was disheartened to see how RUDE and ANGRY the owner was!! After opting to wait for an outside table, 25 minutes later our name was overlooked and the first table given to someone else. When we explained it was our turn, he said no it wasn't - that there was someone ahead of us. He started yelling at my friend, the local resident, and even as we walked away he continued to yell at her. I have NEVER BEEN SO RUDELY TREATED BY ANYONE IN MY LIFE. Can't wait to get back to California where service matters and local patrons are treated with greater respecet.

Ok, this place is right outta the 70's; hasn't changed since then, and that's why everyone loves it. The prices are from the 70's too. They don't take any foolishness from the visiting New Yorkers and will ask them to leave if they are rude and demanding. lol. If you are health conscious like me, it is a little hard to find something to order. I order fresh fruit, or a vegetable omelette minus the cheese. They do not have bottled water. This is mostly a breakfast place, but they also serve lunch every day but Sunday. Plan to wait on weekends. You can ask for butter instead of margarine. The wait staff is very nice and fast. Your coffee cup will always be full. But take care of the girls. The prices are cheap, but make sure you leave them at least a $5.00 tip, not a cheap tip like the "visitors" leave. These girls work hard, and they are very sweet and friendly. Breakfast ends at noon, sharp.

The food is very good especially considering the price. You can easily buy breakfast for two for under $20 including tip. The place is really simple and far from fancy. However, they have probably the best breakfast in the area and they're located right on Atlantic so you can people watch while you eat.

It's the local downtown diner where folks come to by the bunches after church on Sunday. On weekdays the problems of the world are solved by local business men at the counter as they enjoy eggs, corned beef hash and rye toast with good coffee that is topped off often by waitresses who seem to take an interest in your families and what's going on. Not too fancy and not trying to be......

Our second time there. Reasonably priced, basic breakfast. We had omelets and toast. Well cooked. Slow delivery due to understaffing and a packed dining room. A tradition in Delray and obviously successful as they've opened a second place in Boynton Beach. They also need separate buspeople as the tables werent cleaned before new customers arrived.

This reataurant taught me that delray beach has a "day" life too :) I happened to.pass this restaurant after a morning jog on the beach and was pleasantly surprised to see lot of people eating. More out of curiosity, I walked in and wow was that a good decision or what? Food is amazingly cheap, tastes good and quantity is good as well. Nothing exotic but simple and cheap. Their breakfast specials ate also good. My wife had the spimach l, feta and tomato omelette and she loved it. I had a breakfast scramble of eggs, bacon, sausage patty and pancakes and was it...yummmm " highly recommended. For all those whole night party goers, this is just a couple of minutes walk from all the major discos :)

If I could give them zero stars I would. I went there this weekend for a relaxing getaway with my boyfriend. The wait didn't seem unreasonable. The place was packed so we expected the food to be good. We sat and placed our order. The food came out one hour after we placed our order. The worst part of it all was that 5 other tables who sat 10-20 minutes after us got their food before us. When we inquired as to the wait time the waiter said he doesnt keep track of these things. When we got the bill there was not even A PENNY off our check. Needless to say the service was horrible, the food was bland, and the staff were lost in space.

As a long time dray resident.... Used to go 2 to 3xs a week However they have a stupid system of serving all the single people first now. If you are 2 or more you will wait FOREVER. This is no joke.... I have watched over 30 single people that came in 30 and 40 minutes after me get food eat and leave. It's so frustrating. I have waited well over an hour many times. I'm fed up and so are all my friends. Sad cause I love the staff. I guess they don't realize who pays the bills when these tourist go home.

This place it exactly what it seems. Cheep kinda skanky and food that lacks any imagination. If you want toast eggs and bacon you do not need the be a winner of the Iron Chef contest. It is quick and fills the void in your gut for little money and no wait. You get what you pay for and this place is 100% of that. Final answer is you can eat there and it wont kill you. If you have a car and a few more minutes there is better places to drop $5.

This place is great for a quick, traditional, cash-only, nothing-fancy diner experience. They were the busiest place on Atlantic Ave on a Sunday at 11:00am, in a good way. Service was super fast, and food was home-style. I had the Combo: 2 eggs over easy, corned-beef hash, wheat toast. Delicious breakfast/brunch and a friendly staff!

I have breakfast here twice a month with my husband and son. The prices are great, it's cute as a button, and the service is always wonderful. It can be quite busy, but the staff is always very kind and helpful. I personally love the green decor and owls. As for the review that said this place is dirty, I disagree. It's dated, but that's it's niche, and I've never thought of it as dirty. Turkey club is great and I love the fries. It's charming in a funky way and the food is decent and cheap. Can't get that on Atlantic Ave anywhere! This place is a Delray Gem!

Waited 45 minutes for eggs over easy. Many tables who sat down well after us got their food first. Waitresses were trashing the customers right in front of us. The entire staff seemed angry and stessed out. I could not wait to get out of there. I just moved to Delray and was looking for a local spot for breakfast. I will never go there again. I complained to the waitress and her only comment, "Not my fault. it is the kitchens fault" Best tip...keep looking elsewhere. Seriously, what is all the hype about?? If there is someone thinking of opening a breakfast spot on the AVE, they should do it NOW !

A local diner by definition. Cash only, low prices, fresh from the kitchen and at 6% tax, you can't beat it. The Green Owl often features a gaggle of eager eaters awaiting a table turnover, preferably outside perched on Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach. From french toast to a fabulous omelet, the menu offers everything from greasy spoon typical plates to a few health conscious options. Allow yourself time to be seated and additional extended minutes for your dish to be ready

The perfect place to grab a casual, reasonably priced, home-cooked meal. We went for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised that breakfast was still being offered. We were satisfied with our portions and the prices-- especially for Atlantic Ave. This is our new favorite no-frills-yet-great-meal restaurant in town!

One of the few cheap places left on the Atlantic.... GREAT BREAKFAST! Grab one of the 4 tables outside and get a cheap, fast, good breakfast. Inside is full of vintage green owl 'garage sale treasure'. Really cute and quaint. Simple and yummy American Diner' breakfast and lunch menus. I went for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the Patty Melt and the Turkey Club. Usually an older crowd but would be good for families. Counter seating available. Crowded on weekend mornings.

If you're looking for a breakfast place in downtown Delray - go here! Trust me. They might have a short wait (and it will be short) but the food is good and not pricey. This is a friendly place run by a long time local guy. Stick with the basics - eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes, steak-n-eggs - you'll be happy. Coffee is just okay. But for breakfast in Delray this is the best place to go, hands down.

I live in Delray Beach and have eaten several times. First, the place hasn't been cleaned since about 1967. FILTHY! Second, the wait staff acts like they're doing YOU a favor by letting you sit in all that filth. If you had to pay for this attitude, your lard-laiden eggs would cost about $400. Third, if you want to wait up to 1 1/2 hours for some greasy eggs and brown coffee, this place is for you. The only reason it's "popular" is because it's a local hangout. Mostly people from all the "recovery places" who don't have anything to do but wait for sub-par food in a filthy enviornment. If you want a great breakfast with great service, go to Ellie's 50's Diner on Federal Hwy, just up the street.

Food a good value. However, took 40 minutes to come out because the kitchen was "backed up". Our server was basically disinterested throughout. The camel-breaking straw was when she decided not to fulfill a simple request for warm syrup by not visiting our table for 15 minutes. When she finally came back she said "we cannot microwave plastic". Hello, there are several ways to heat syrup. I was miffed that she let us sit there for 15 minutes. Was told "Cash only" at the register like I was the biggest idiot in DRB.
